Your rights over your child's data
If you are a parent or guardian, you can ask to see the information BuddyAI holds about your child, ask for it to be corrected, or raise a complaint about how it has been handled. This page explains how, and is honest about which parts are handled by people rather than by software.
Start with your child's school
Your child's school decides what is recorded in BuddyAI and is responsible for that information. BuddyAI runs the software on the school's behalf. A request about your child should therefore go to the school first: they can see the records directly and correct most things themselves, which is usually faster than anything we can do. If the school needs us in order to answer you, they will ask us and we will help them.
What you can ask for
- Access: a copy of the information held about your child, and an explanation of what it is used for.
- Correction: a record that is wrong or out of date put right, including details entered by the school in error.
- Erasure: removal of information that is no longer needed, subject to records the school is required to keep.
- Complaint: an answer about how your child's information has been handled, and what will be done about it.
How a request is handled today
Requests are handled by people, not by an automatic feature. There is no self-service button in BuddyAI that exports or deletes a child's record, and we would rather say so than imply one exists. When a request reaches us we record it, confirm with the school that you are the child's parent or guardian, gather what is held, and reply to you through the school. Each request is logged with the date it arrived, what was asked, and what was done, so that it can be audited afterwards. Building a self-service export and erasure feature is planned work and is not finished.
Raising a grievance with us
Contact details to be published
BuddyAI is appointing a named grievance officer and their contact details will be published here before the product is used with real pupils. Until that appointment is published, please raise any concern through your child's school, which can reach us directly. We have deliberately left this space empty rather than printing a contact that is not yet real.
If you are not satisfied
If the school and BuddyAI together have not resolved your concern, you may escalate it to the Data Protection Board of India, which oversees personal data protection under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act. Using this page first is not a precondition for doing so.
